Nestled in the park behind Bethnal Green tube station is Bethnal Green Library, a beautiful Victorian structure which once formed part of the Bethnal Green lunatic asylum – from which the surrounding greenery gained its nickname of ‘Barmy Park’. The library takes up the ground floor, but the once disused lecture hall and reading room upstairs are gaining a reputation as a great creative space thanks to the imagination and vision of the library staff and management, attracting diverse members of the local community and visitors from further afield.
